Got Peace of Mind about Money?
3/19/24
When was the last time you felt peaceful about your money…can you remember? Maybe you never had money serenity or maybe it was when you were last paid. How long did the feeling of peace last? A day, a week, or until the money was gone? Can you imagine a peace that transcends circumstances; can you imagine not figuring it out alone?
This kind of peace comes over time and with focused intention, action, and mindfulness practices to address financial anxiety. From sessions with my clients, I see that people who have a lot of money and those without a lot of money - BOTH deal with financial stress. Having money is only one part of the solution to a life well lived.
In this world, post The Great Pandini, our relationships with other humans seem new, and perhaps how we relate to our money and spending is new as well. The Great Pandini for me, was an opportunity for the world to reset, to refine our commitment to well being - in our personal and professional lives and in our contribution to the planet. Now that the world is “open” again, this is an opportunity to begin anew, to establish wellness in every way. Wellness is a broad subject and here at Big Dream Coaching, we will be focusing on practical tools and habits that will bring wellness to your wallet and your world. Money can’t buy happiness but happiness is a path to money! I always ask my clients to complete this sentence:
Money is__________. (Take a moment and listen to how you complete this sentence)
Before I started working on my money mindset, I would have answered with “Money is something I can’t have if I want to have God/holiness” or something like “Money is for other people”. For many the answer is that old saying “Money is the root of all evil”. Right now, many people of all ages and walks of life are suffering from financial PTSD and dealing with financial uncertainty. THe great news is, you have what it takes to get what you want!
In my 20’s when I thought of “rich people” I had all kinds of negative feelings and thoughts about them being greedy, insensitive or just plain wrong. My family was not financially well off and my parents worked hard raising ten of us kids. Being raised with religion, the idea that money was “bad” was the general idea I was left with. That poverty was next to godliness. A teacher of mine once said “you can’t get poor enough to help the poor '' - and this opened my mind to the possibility that having money was a good thing! It fed my belief that being of service is the highest expression of humanity and having the resources to give made a lot more sense to me than struggling just to survive. Over the years, I have unpeeled the onion of thoughts and beliefs about money. I have programmed my subconscious from “getting money” to an abundance mindset. You can, too. I am no saint-I still sometimes get jealous of people who have massive amounts of cash, and then I remember that we all have the same access to money, as long as we are willing to do the work. The truth is, I don’t want to be a billionaire-that’s much more work than I can commit to. I have already generated millions in my life in my other businesses, and I have invested that in my employees, my lifestyle, and in causes about which I care. I also chose to travel to 40+ countries and save for my retirement and large purchases (house, car, etc.)
The best part about having an abundance mindset is learning that money is just one version of wealth. This is perhaps the most powerful step of your money mindset transformation and building your financial recovery plan. I have a wealth of time, of wit, of experiences and friends. I also have a wealth of purpose and drive to create. Thinking in this way has opened up my experience of wealth and my ability to help others see just how much they have - right now - with all of the debt, the bills, the unexpected medical expenses.
“Thousands of things go right for you, every day” -Rob Brezsny
There are lots of ways you already have abundance-effortlessly. All you need is eyes to see it. After I worked on my beliefs around money by learning money management skills, I came to see money as freedom and something that makes me more of who I am. Who I am is a financial wellness coach here to help everyone and everything be well and I currently focus on finances. I love the study of money and I love helping people access more of it! (So much so, that I have coached people around this for a decade, free of charge)
The practical skills for financial well-being that pave the steps to financial freedom are sadly not taught in traditional schools. I went out and learned about money on my own, investing several years and tens of thousands of dollars into a knowledge and feeling base that serves me every day - whether or not money seems to be flowing.
This is what I want for you - to have ease and grace around money, no matter what your circumstance. Whether you’re overcoming money trauma, starting over, dealing with financial stress, don’t know what to do with money just sitting in a savings account, or are seeking strategies for building a healthy relationship with money, the path to financial empowerment and the healing of your relationship with money is here at BDC. Through financial therapy techniques, cognitive-behavioral therapy for financial stress, and mindfulness practices, together, we can transform your money mindset and embark on a financial recovery plan.
As Hanz and Franz would say on Saturday Night Live “Hear me now, believe me laytah”. 🤣
Building wealth, confidence, peace of mind and power around money is like building a muscle. When you put in the repetitions, the muscle builds. It is the nature of Life to grow and promote more Life. Whether or not it is clear to you, I know Life goes ahead of you, preparing what you need before you need it. For example, when you first came out of your mother’s womb, (Rent free! For 9 whole months! lol 😁) she likely had breasts already full of milk, waiting for you! This is one of millions of pieces of evidence that you are supposed to be here, that Life is looking out for you, and that your needs are and will be met. Try this on right now - how many things can you count right now that are working for you?
If you are having a hard time seeing anything, think about this: you can read and see this blog. Which means, you have eyes to see and device upon which to read this. You have hands that allow you to hold your device. Very likely, you have a roof over your head and ate a meal today. We often overlook what is working and focus too much on what is not working.
So you can see, there is abundance all around you, all through you, you just have to train your subconscious mind to see it. When your subconscious mind is filled with ideas of freedom and wealth - you will start to see more evidence, more opportunities to expand your financial and personal self expression. Recognition of abundance is a big step, it helps to put your life into perspective. When you add to that the fact that most of the world lives without devices, roofs, and food, that adds another layer of understanding of how rich you really are.
When you add another layer, an essential layer, of gratitude for all of these gifts, well, then, all of the other layers grow and expand. An attitude of gratitude creates altitude.
Tell me, what are all the needs met for you, right now? For what are you profoundly grateful?
What we focus on expands, so if you want peace of mind, focus on what you have, on all the needs that are already met, and on your unlimited capacity to choose and create! These are all tools in your financial healing strategy toolkit. If you are interested in learning more, drop me a line and let me know your list - I would be grateful for the opportunity to know!
