Are Your Beliefs Fooling You?  An April Fools Day Blog for the Wise

Beliefs are funny. Not like April Fools jokes funny, but odd, how they appear real and fixed. Beliefs are thoughts and ideas that you let BE or LEAVE in your mind. Beliefs can change and when they do, unimagined, grand things can happen

Have you ever looked at your beliefs about money? If you want financial well being, you need to first identify what you believe about money. If you don’t have the lifestyle you really desire, chances are, some disempowering beliefs are at play. Beliefs create a narrative about what life is, how rich people “are”, how your life “is”. Those narratives are like stories, always running in the background of your mind. They can turn into self-talk (“I am ___, I am not ___”), actions, and inaction. You can’t become wealthy if you believe you can’t.

Get ready for some tips on how to catalyze your money mindset transformation!

“Whether you believe you can, or believe you can’t, you’re right.” -Henry Ford

(Henry Ford was an American industrialist and business magnate. As founder of the Ford Motor Company, he is credited as a pioneer in making automobiles affordable for middle-class Americans-Wikipedia)

Deconstructing your beliefs is the first, best access to the lifestyle you want. Once you have identified our beliefs, you can discern which beliefs are serving you and which are not. Many folks are unaware that they are run by their beliefs, and never really examine them.

“An unexamined life is not worth living.” -Socrates

(Socrates was a Greek philosopher from Athens, Greece, who is credited as the founder of Western philosophy and among the first moral philosophers of the ethical tradition of thought. - Wikipedia)

Looking at your life gives you purpose and meaning - two important aspects of any big dream. Keeping your head in the proverbial sand is popular, because it seems safe and identifying them takes effort. It’s much easier to look at your beliefs with the help of a coach, because they provide essential perspective. Sometimes, it’s hard to see something when you are looking up close, from your own perspective. Avoidance of this important exercise will get you the same results you have always gotten. So, if you want change, if you want to improve your financial skills, you must observe the roots of your current reality. Your financial reality CAN CHANGE. It is not determined by your heritage or even by working harder. You must learn how to work smarter. If you believe the system is more powerful than you, then, it will be. If you believe that the universe is a friendly place, working FOR YOU, then you have a lot more leverage and mobility within the world. Beliefs are stories we tell ourselves, so why not tell an empowering story? Don’t let your beliefs fool you into having less than you want. Once you have identified the beliefs that work FOR you, you can begin to expand them with actions and language that prosper your wallet and your world.

As for the negative or non-supportive beliefs, those, you will have to pull out by the roots. This can happen quickly or slowly, depending on the level of your willingness to let them go. There are a slew of ways to eradicate disempowering beliefs and sometimes, it takes time, but you can speed up the process. The level of your commitment to your big dream is a key factor in this phase of wealth development. If you are simply interested, you likely won’t do the work it takes. Commitment means being ready to take the actions required to grow and change. Change can be scary, but it is well worth the effort! If you make the effort and shoot for the moon, even if you only get to the stars, you will be in a much better lifestyle and reality than you currently have! The human brain is a living organism and it will change when we tell it to. If we let the brain run rampant with this thought or that, it makes you the fool. You are the master of your domain. You are the one. You are able to rewire your brain for abundance, one step at a time. I will help you! One of my most influential teachers once said to me “You don’t want to go into your mind alone, it is a scary neighborhood. It is better to go in with someone else!” It is easy to get distracted and to forget about your goals.

Beliefs are powerful. Here are some beliefs that you could learn to embody:

*My needs are met. (Roof over your head, food, clothes, clean water, etc.)

*I have enough and more than enough.

*I can do anything I put my mind to.

*I will succeed.

*I am infinite in my ability to create.

*I am not alone.

Once you have identified disempowering beliefs, that doesn’t mean they go away instantly! Like weeds, they grow and stay rooted, unless you pull them up and out, repeatedly, with consistency. Your animal brain or amygdala, exists to keep you safe. Long ago, this meant safe from actual physical death. Modern humans don’t have the same level of risk of being eaten by a larger animal, but the mind is still trying to protect you from harm - real or imagined. Its nature is to highlight contrast and to fear. Fear is a signal to protect yourself - it is not meant to be a 24/7 lifestyle.

Once you know the thoughts and beliefs that do not serve you, one way to pull them out is to repeatedly thank your mind for sharing. It is your friend, after all! It just has a limited scope and YOU are bigger than your egoic mind. You are much, much, more powerful. When you are shaping your new lifestyle of abundance, health, purpose, and joy, you will hear old thoughts pop into your awareness. It is natural. It doesn’t mean you are failing. It means you are human. The trick is, to simply thank your mind for sharing. Don’t engage the thought. Don’t investigate the thought. Just say “thanks for sharing!” and return to the thoughts about what you are NOW creating, thoughts about your big dream. Over time, those protective, fearful thoughts will hold less power - because YOU took away their power, with your attention. You ain’t no fool.

*There are oodles of tools to rewire your brain for abundance. A regular gratitude practice, languaging only that which you wish to experience and noticing resistance, are a few to get you started.
